A heart, believed to be that of a human, was recently found outside a northern OH shopping mall, and now authorities are trying to determine where it came from.

Police are investigating after a fresh “human” heart was discovered by paramedics behind a supermarket in Ohio.

Back in August, an EMS crew from a small town outside of Cleveland parked an ambulance next to a field and left to respond to a service call.

A human heart in a bag was found late last month near a convenience store parking lot authorities said. When they got back about an hour later, the paramedics noticed a odd bag in the grass next to the truck.

“It was fresh; it wasn’t decomposed”, Norwalk, Ohio, Police Chief Dave Light told the Reflector. Authorities now say that they are fairly certain that it is, but there are no open cases into hearts stolen from graves or medical facilities.

There, it was tested, with the coroner saying he is “95 per cent sure” the heart is human. “I think they’re covering all the angles until they know for sure”.

Harwood was unable to determine for sure that the heart was human – human hearts can resemble those of pigs, chimanzees and dogs – and sent it to a veterinarian for further examination after a biopsy.
