Heartbreak! West Indies sneak past India by 1 run in first T20

West Indies won a high-scoring Twenty20 worldwide against India by a single run in a pulsating start to the short series in the United States.

West Indies notched a win in the 1st T20 worldwide at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida against India.

Dwayne Bravo (2-37) bowled the crucial last over, where he picked up the wicket of Indian skipper MS Dhoni in the last ball to clinch the match. He gave mere six runs in the last over and outfoxed Dhoni in the last ball with his slower delivery to win the match for the Windies.

With the century, the Karnataka batsman has now become the third Indian to score a century in all three formats of the game.

Amit Mishra, recalled at the expense of Stuart Binny, took 3-24, while Mohammed Shami (2-31), Ravichandran Ashwin (2-11) and Jasprit Bumrah (2-26) also shone in a much-improved bowling display from India. Mishra was introduced in the last over of the Power Play and immediately struck, dismissing Charles who tried to heave Mishra’s first ball out of the ground and was caught smartly at long-on by Ajinkya Rahane for 43 off 25 with five fours and two sixes.

Lokesh Rahul was unbeaten for India on 110 in just his fourth T20 match, hitting 12 fours and five sixes. But nobody cared about the fans present in the stadium, who paid hefty amount to watch their favourite cricket stars play on the United States soil for the first time. However, the first day hero, Evin Lewis was got rid of cheap (7) by Shami, but the other opener Charles took off from where he left of yesterday. At least some pride was restored after this massive effort by the Indian bowlers.

Shami, who was recalled for his second spell, finally managed to bring the onslaught to a halt by removing Charles with a full length delivery that rocked his off-stump.

Jadeja accounted for Andre Russell (22 of 12 balls) winning an LBW shout and then dismissed unsafe Lewis, with Ashwin taking an excellent catch running backwards from cover.

Evin Lewis, hitting five boundaries and nine sixes, however, reached 100. We could have got to 250-60 Thanks to the U.S. for support. While West Indies took the first match, India dominated the second.

There was no dearth of box-office names on show on the weekend in Florida, but in a big disappointment to the crowd Chris Gayle was missing from the West Indies line-up because of injury. Two centuries and two fifties were scored in a game which saw almost 500 runs scored and end in the final ball of the contest.

West Indies crawled past the 100-run mark in the 14th over; on Saturday, they were into three figures in the eighth.
