‘Heat Dome’ Causing Excessive Temperatures In Much Of U.S.

The National Weather Service will have to likely issue at least “heat advisories”.

“Extreme heat affects people of all ages, but some New Yorkers are more vulnerable than others, especially the elderly and people with chronic medical conditions”, New York City Commissioner Joseph Esposito said in a statement.

The high heat and humidity will move from the Corn Belt toward the Southeast over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity in San Bernardino and Riverside counties hit as low as 11 percent Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Some storms could be severe, with a greater chance of storms forecast for Saturday afternoon and evening.

Today: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 90.

Today’s forecast: Look for a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

The Weather Service said there’s a 70 percent chance for showers and storms Saturday night and Sunday, with possible rain totals of three-quarters of an inch to an inch on Saturday night and a tenth to a quarter of an inch on Sunday. South wind 8 to 14 miles per hour.

Mostly cloudy skies will follow into Friday night, along with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m.

Sunday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

By Friday afternoon, all but one of the lower 48 states had hit 90 degrees somewhere, with only Washington state offering cooler comfort.

Break out the shorts and sunscreen and cross your fingers for luck because we could see not only the fourth consecutive day of triple-digit temperatures but also the 13th day at or above 100 degrees this year. The warning is set to expire at 7 p.m. Saturday.
