Heat forward Chris Bosh fails physical, future in doubt

The Miami Heat will not allow Chris Bosh to return for training camp after failing a preseason physical with no timetable set for his return. Blood clots ended each of his last two seasons at the All-Star break and now, won’t let this season get started.

Chris Bosh is not yet cleared to resume basketball activities, the Miami Heat said on Friday. The Heat declined to explain why Bosh failed the physical and cited a clause in the collective bargaining agreement that prohibits the team from releasing certain medical information.

The Heat as well as doctors in Miami and NY, where Bosh was earlier this week do not agree. “To me, the biggest thing is Chris has five kids and a wife and a family that depends on him being there.

Nonetheless, given Bosh’s current medical and physical condition, it is doubtful that the Dallas Mavericks might be willing to sign him for the next season, as it will put the team at great risk. To me, that’s always most important. Fleischmann takes blood thinners via injections after every game or practice, spacing the blood thinner injections out to make sure they’re out of his system when he needs to play.

During the episode, Bosh documented the steps he took in the offseason to make what he believed would be a return to training camp, which for the Heat opens Tuesday in the Bahamas after Monday’s media day at AmericanAirlines Arena.

“Now for that to happen”, Jackson said on WQAM’s the Big O Show, “Bosh would need to be released from the roster at that point and then the doctor that would be approved by both the union and the league would have to rule that Bosh could not continue to play or that it would not be prudent for him to continue to play”.

Bosh is owed almost $76 million for the final three seasons of his contract.

At the end of the pre-taped episode, Bosh again sounded confident that he will play again and even revealed what he plans to do when he’s not cleared. In the podcast, he suggested that team doctors work for the organization and not the players; on the video, he said he was told by doctors that his career was likely over when the second clot saga began this past February. CT scans are often used when trying to find if clots have traveled to the upper body. The only location where Bosh has confirmed a clot was found this year was in one of his calves.

It is unclear if Bosh is on blood thinners, and if he is, what kind of regimen he is following. He was able to recover and had averages of 19.1 points and 7.4 rebounds last season before the second and most recent clot episode took place in February, and effectively ended his season – although this latest incident was not as serious as the one that he suffered previous year.
