Heat lose Udrih for remainder of season

Beno Udrih will require three months to recover from surgery to fix a torn plantar plate in his right foot.

Udrih has appeared in 36 games (five starts) with the HEAT this season averaging 4.4 points, 2.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 16.3 minutes while shooting 43.4 percent from the field.

This will likely mean more time for rookie Josh Richardson, who saw an uptick in minutes since the All-Star break due to an injury that kept Dwyane Wade out for two games.

“I think Coach could play around with my substitution pattern and try to have me out there when Goran is not on the floor, etcetera”, he said. “We will adjust accordingly, whatever is required”.

It’s a doubly tough blow for the Heat, who are running low on players and are in a precarious spot when it comes to finding ways to sign outside help. He was originally acquired by the HEAT, along with Jarnell Stokes, via trade with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Mario Chalmers and James Ennis earlier this season on November 10.

The challenge Miami now faces is how to bring in reinforcements.

The Miami Heat have been hit hard by the injury bug all season, and have been hit once again this week.

And the tax is a major deterrent to the Heat right now. Miami has enough room below the tax line to add a player, though may have to wait a bit longer in order to avoid going back into taxpayer territory. There is no way that they can make it through the remainder of the regular season with 10 players, especially with some being as big of health risks as they are.
