The Thunder also traded away Serge Ibaka this summer to the Magic in exchange for explosive shooting guard Victor Oladipo, which lessened the team’s need to retain Waiters even more.
Dion Waiters has signed with the Miami Heat on a one-year $2.9 million deal.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the deal.
Making 78 regular-season appearances in 2015-16, including 15 starts, Waiters averaged a career-low 9.7 points across 27.6 minutes per game.
According to the Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds and Jon Krawczynki, the Miami Heat have agreed to sign a one-year deal with free agent guard Dion Waiters.
Waiters had become a bit of a laughingstock around the league for his shameless chucking and ball-stopping, with his general style of play resembling a ball-dominant star of the ’90s and early 2000s, only without the production to back it up.
Waiters could have previously signed the $6.8 million qualifying offer with the Thunder at any point until it was withdrawn on July 18th.

The No. 4 overall pick of the 2012 National Basketball Association draft out of Syracuse, Waiters has averaged 12.8 points, 2.5 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game in his four-year National Basketball Association career. He’s expected to compete for the starting shooting guard position along with Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson.
