Heavy Fog Causes Flight Disruption across Europe

Fog is not disrupting flights from Stansted Airport, bosses have said.

Leeds Bradford Airport: “Due to adverse weather conditions a few flights have been affected, please contact your airline or visit our Arrivals and Departures page for the latest flight information”.

An unusually large blanket of thick fog descended on European airports Monday, causing scores of flight cancellations from London Heathrow, the continent’s busiest, and delays at key hubs including Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

“We can’t stress enough that passengers should check flight details with their airline before they travel to the airport”.

The chief forecaster added: “A slack, moist airmass lying across much of England will allow fog to readily form again on Sunday night, reducing visibility to less than 100m at times”.

Sky News presenter Eamonn Holmes was one of those stranded by the fog.

The airline resorted to telling passengers to “not come to the airport unless you have a confirmed booking on a flight that is operating”.

Heavy fog is expected to cause widespread travel delays during the morning rush hour as schools return from the half-term break.
