Heavy Rain Brings Delhi And Parts Of NCR To A Standstill

Heavy rains lashed parts of the national capital today leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas, even as the mercury settled at the normal level. According to another Delhi traffic officer, congestion was reported to be heavy on the carriageway from Peeragarhi to Tikri Border, Nangloi to Najafgarh, under Modi Mill flyover caused by excessive waterlogging.

Thumping its own back, Gurgaon Police tweeted that all hands of the department were at work as the city faced slow traffic.

“Gurgaon recorded 4 mm rains”. Cars in all directions. Heavy traffic was reported on nearly all major carriageways due to waterlogging.

Gurgaon has also seen waterlogging at a number of major intersections, including Hero Honda Chowk, Sohna Road, Manesar, Udyog Vihar, old Gurgaon Road and a few areas in New Gurgaon, Hindustan Times said.

“Similarly, in parts of South Delhi, waterlogging led to excessive traffic snarls at both the carriageways under Dhaula Kaun flyover from Mayapuri to Motibagh and from Hyatt Hotel towards Moti Bagh”. Delhi traffic police have cautioned commuters against plying on certain routes prone to water-logging.

Late in the evening, waterlogging reports also came from Ramlila Ground, Gurunanak Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg, Minto Bridge, Bhairon Marg and Indraprastha.

He said senior police, district administration and National Highways Authority of India officials assisted to ease the traffic movement by 8 pm.

Many motorists abandoned their vehicles and waded through knee-deep water which accumulated on both the carriageways of Delhi-Jaipur road, including Hero Honda Chowk, bringing traffic to a standstill with the tailback extending up to 15-20 km.
