The storm should arrive by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning and is a developing storm over the American Midwest that is expected to merge with moisture from the remnants of hurricane Patricia.

Because of this system we’re expecting a fairly strong storm as it reaches the Great Lakes, and we could see a large amount of rain and strong winds for the next couple of days.

“The rainfall may be heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms also possible”, the statement reads. Latest indications continue to suggest 25 to 40 mm of rain in most areas.

A few regions, most likely those adjacent to the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines, could see rainfall approaching Environment Canada’s rainfall warning criterion of 50 millimetres within 24 hours.

Near Lake Ontario, however, the wind speeds may reach the warning threshold of 90 km/h, the weather agency said.

Thursday is forecast with a 60 per cent change of showers, switching to a 40 per cent chance of showers or flurries that night.

Forecasters believe the boisterous weather could cause tree damage, especially in areas where there the trees still have leaves, as well as blackouts.

“The precipitation and strong winds will come to an end by Friday as the fall storm moves away over Northern Quebec”.
