Heavy rains pound Hyderabad, seven killed including four children

Continuous downpour in Hyderabad caused severe traffic snarls across the city.

The areas affected include Chilkalguda, Road No 10 Banjara Hills, KCP Junction, Hospital, Adikmet flyover, Tolichowki X Road, Begum Bazar L&O PS, Tilak Nagar Railway Bridge, Allagadabavi, Afzal Gunj, ST. Anns School, Fever Hospital, Nampally, Medicity, Nalgonda X road, AY Mandali, Panjagutta, Nagarjuna Circle. He is also expected to meet with the chief secretary to review the situation.

Accompanied by senior Congress leaders, Opposition leader in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir visited Bholakpur on Wednesday evening and offered condolence to Mohammed Nadeem, who lost his wife and two daughters, due to collapse of house. City mayor Bontu Rammohan has ordered action against the contractor of the building whose wall collapsed due to rain.

Dr. Reddy appealed to people not to venture out till there is some let-up unless for emergencies as the municipal sanitation staff and traffic police struggled to bring some order to the chaos.

A new outlet built near the Marriot Hotel at Tank Bund was opened to let out 120 cusecs of water from Hussainsagar lake as it reached the full tank level of 513.4 metres. House collapses, water logging of roads, and inundation of several slums were reported in different parts of the city.

The situation eased in the afternoon when the rain stopped and traffic movement also became smooth in a couple of hours. “With the help of GHMC, we are trying to clear the blockades”, the DCP said.
