Coming off a recent match against his biggest rival, Pep Guardiola, the Manchester United trainer is said to be in a combative mood as his team competes for honours in the Europa League, a tournament widely regarded as “second-tier” when compared to UEFA’s biggest club competition.

“If I didn’t win that year then we probably would not have left”.

“And we would have then won it because we were a very good young team”.

“The entire story we’re telling is about him watching Champions League in his house telling the fans to get involved”, Anuraag Trikha, Heineken’s global brand communication director, said in an interview. “There had been frustration after frustration”.

Mourinho’s Inter beat his old side Chelsea on the way to the final that year, but they nearly went out to Dynamo Kiev in the Group Stage before late goals from Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder.

“That final was the last chance for [Marco] Materazzi, [Francesco] Toldo, [Javier] Zanetti, [Ivan] Cordoba, [Esteban] Cambiasso”.

“And the president (Massimo Moratti), he was president for years and years and never, never, never”.

Jose Mourinho is the star of a new Champions League commercial released on Tuesday. We scored at Dynamo Kiev in the 89th minute.

Heineken are the UEFA Champions League sponsors and have added a two-time victor of the competition – as manager – to their advertising might for the 2016/17 season.
