Heisman profile: McCaffrey does it all for Stanford

Alabama running back and Heisman frontrunner Derrick Henry won the SEC’s offensive player of the year award.

“I do know how to strike the pose, yeah”, McCaffrey said.

“As far as talent at running back, Fournette and Cook would be 1A and 1B, however you want to put them”, Washington said. We can laugh about it now. Watson led his team to an undefeated season and helped Clemson get the number one spot in the College Football Playoff and if he wins he will keep the quarterback Heisman streak alive.

Derrick Henry made a quick impression on his Alabama teammates upon arriving on campus as a coveted prospect with everything from his hardcore weight room workouts to those middle-of-the-night pushup sessions. He is simply sensational. The other team plans on stopping him to win….and fails. The ballots are closed, so there’s no more need to campaign for a victor. Let’s try this: Derrick Henry is a beastly freak of nature.

That hard work allowed him to take the field in September, just nine months after his surgery, without one setback. But Henry first must emerge from of one of the tightest races in recent memory.

With Cook’s statistics being at least as impressive as the other tailbacks – he ranks No. 1 among them in yards per carry, No. 3 in yards per game and No. 4 in rushing touchdowns – Warchant.com conducted an informal survey of college football experts to see why the Seminoles’ star sophomore doesn’t earn more respect nationally. But that is not wholly unexpected, considering he is coming up on the one-year anniversary of his knee surgery. “But I like that it’s changed up a little bit”, said Dave Matter, who covers Missouri and the SEC for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The man is an absolute animal.

Henry broke Herschel Walker’s SEC single season record in the SEC title game against Florida Saturday when he ran for 189 yards and a TD on 44 carries. He is Mr. Everything for Stanford. The Rebels proved that beating ‘Bama is possible, but needed a handful of big plays to do it, one of which was a 66-yard pass deflected into the hands of an Ole Miss receiver. He’s scored 15 touchdowns this year, which includes throwing two as well. Something that many of us have known for a long time: that the Heisman Trophy is decided in November. He is very quick and shifty. Very often the media talks about “Heisman moments” for the eventual victor and the Pac-12 championship game gave McCaffrey that opportunity, as he had over 400 total yards in that game.

About the only thing McCaffrey didn’t do this season was brag. I think that monster performance, along with breaking Sanders’ record, really cemented McCaffrey as a Heisman finalist.

Who is your vote for Heisman out of the three finalists? .

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is a Heisman finalist, thanks in large part to his transformation over the second half of the season. Those names are, Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma, Ezekiel Elliott from Ohio State, and Paxton Lynch from Memphis. If I had a vote, I’d be quite conflicted as to who I’d go for. He is certainly a worthy candidate.
