Yes, it would seem that Mirren, like the women in so many action movies before her, has been sidelined.
She talked to EW about joining the established cast, saying, “I’m nervous because you’re going on to a set with people who have been doing this for [so long], basically, they all know each other, they’ve worked together, they know what they’re doing”. She even compared her driving skills against Dwayne Johnson and joked that the Rock may not even know how to drive the said vehicle type. She joins Charlize Theron, who will play the first-ever female villain in the popular series, as well as rising star Scott Eastwood.
In “Fast 8”, Johnson reunites with fellow franchise veterans Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Nathalie Emmanuel, Lucas Black, Jason Staham and Kurt Russell. “I’ll probably f– it up, oh God”, she said. “I think they’ll be nice to me”.
The “RED” star had expressed a desire to drive in the high-octane sequel but so far none of her scenes involve her being behind the wheel.
Fans can discover what happens to beloved characters when “Fast 8” hits movie theaters on April 14, 2017. Parts nine and 10 of the franchise have already been confirmed as in the works.
