The aircraft went down near Farm-to-Market 876 and Bell Branch Road.

Two people were killed in a fiery crash when an experimental Bell helicopter slammed into the ground near Dallas/Fort-Worth Airport Wednesday morning.

“We’re working with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the accident and will provide further details as they come available”, says Bell in a statement released on Twitter.

Another witness, who works at a nearby body shop and asked not to be named, said that he heard “two booms” before the helicopter went down. The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified.

The helicopter was one of three that was flying in formation at the time and was the only one that crashed, reports Jason Whitely of WFAA-TV (Channel 8).

“There was nothing the pilot could do”, he said.

According to Ellis County Emergency Management, the chopper exploded in mid-air. This is the first crash of a Bell 525.

Pictures of the crash scene indicate the wreckage belongs to the first 525 test aircraft, which launched the flight test phase on 1 July 2015.
