Adele’s return to music comes after a four-year hiatus and the first single from the album “Hello” was knocked off the top spot in the United Kingdom but is still number one in the US.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive, Official Charts Company comments: “The massive impact of 25 this week marks the moment that Adele has transformed herself from a phenomenon of our age to an all-time great”.
In the coming days and weeks there will certainly be a lot of speculation around what would have happened if she had released 25 on music streaming services right out the gate. “She is single-handedly keeping the music industry alive”. The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which has sold 5.1 million copies, is Britain’s best-selling studio album.
Adele’s British and European tour will begin in Belfast in February and travel through cities including Stockholm, Berlin, Lisbon, Verona, Amsterdam and Paris before ending in Antwerp in June. The retailers predicted that the album would be one of the prime selling product this season.
Adele has also broken the sales record in Canada according to People. Add to that fans’ seeming obsession with her music and Adele is sitting pretty these days.

As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, the 27-year-old singer’s latest full-length effort has officially sold more copies in the USA in its first week than any other album in history, and the week’s not even over yet. The artist seems determined to hold her side of the bargain, now that her new album has already managed to set a new record with 25. In the modern day, where streaming has become the most used method of listening to music, the stars emphasis of not releasing the album is somewhat unfair. When looked at over the longer term, it has already shifted more copies than the collective total of the last nineteen number one British albums.
