Heltah Skeltah’s Sean Price dead at 43

Sean Price was born and died in the same city he called home for his entire life: the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

The 43-year-old hip hop artists reportedly died Saturday morning and DJ Premier was the first to announce the unfortunate news via Instagram, Rolling Stone has learned.

Sean started his career in the hip-hop duo Heltah Skeltah before transitioning into the group Boot Camp Clik. Price enjoyed a solo career and he released his last album, Mic Tyson, in 2012. The statement said the cause of death was not immediately known. Additionally, Sean revealed this summer, plans of working with M.O.P’s Lil Fame (a/k/a Fizzy Womack) on a full collaborative album. He was slated to release a mixtape later this August titled “Song in the Key of Price”. While loved by millions around the world, his native Brooklyn was a fitting choice for a new mural painted by the beloved artist MeresOne.

Duck Down Music has organized a crowdfunding page to help assist Price’s wife and children during this time.

While the cause of Sean Price’s death has not been confirmed, condolences are already pouring in all over social media. “The family and friends of Sean Price asked for time to mourn and process the news”.

So far there have been no details about his death with the exception of him being asleep when it happened.

“I want to be remembered”, Sean Price told OkayPlayer three years before his death.

Peter Rosenberg, an influential hip-hop radio host based in NYC, played an hour-long set devoted to Price at midnight on Sunday.
