Hennessey is preparing a 405bhp Ford Focus RS

The standard Focus RS without the Hennessey treatment churns out 375hp and 376 lb-ft of twist.

With big names like Cobb Tuning and Mountune Performance already on the scene, it’s hard to imagine anyone else competing in the performance-upgrade market for Ford’s new Focus RS hot hatch.

The model is called Hennessey HPE400.

The Hennessey HPE400 upgrade kit includes a high-flow air filter, a stainless steel mid pipe with an electronic dump valve and an engine management software upgrade.

Performance specifications haven’t been announced yet.

The results boost power output of the car’s turbocharged 2.3-litre engine by 60bhp and torque by 101lb ft of torque. Hennessey’s hot-rodded RS retains the stock model’s six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive system, which is capable of sending up to 70 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear axle.

John Hennessey and his team at Hennessey Performance have only just taken delivery of the Focus RS so there is a lot of further development ahead. Alternatively, buyers who aren’t mechanically inclined can ask the tuner to install all the parts and run the auto on a dyno for $4,995.

There’s also the promise of deeper upgrades coming in the future for the RS; stuff like new induction systems, intercoolers, better exhausts, upgrades to the turbo, wheels and even the tyres.
