Henry: Premier League and Chelsea are losing a ‘great character’ in Mourinho
Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins believes Guus Hiddink is the “absolutely perfect” choice to rescue the Blues’ faltering season in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s exit.

Mourinho paid the price for Chelsea’s limp title defence, with the Blues suffering nine defeats in their 16 Barclays Premier League matches so far this term. Mourinho could get around $60 million in compensation since he had signed a new contract this past summer for four years, but he is expected to take less than that to leave the team.
“That’s what they have to do, that’s what they were supposed to do, and I believe that’s what they’ve been trying to do”.
Bournemouth boss Howe encapsulated the collective shock among Mourinho’s peers, with rival managers all admitting sadness at the colourful Portuguese’s exit from English football. With him we have achieved very important titles and memories for the fans that will remain in the history of Chelsea forever. “It happened to Dortmund last season”.
“I love Jose and he’s done a fantastic job for Chelsea”, the former England midfielder said.
He was previously sacked by Abramovich in 2007 and his departure yesterday came just seven months after he led Chelsea to a league and League Cup double.
“Thank you for all you have done for me”. Sad sad day. Gonna miss you Boss. “Good luck in the future”, said Fabregas.
Guus Hiddink is the bookies’ favourite to succeed Mourinho.
“Given his record of achievement at Stamford Bridge, surely he’s entitled to one bad season”. In his second season, Chelsea captured the Premier League title, and Mourinho was named the Premier League Manager of the Season.
“If he comes in we’ll have to wait and see, he’s available, there’s not too many managers available that have certain qualities to get into the hot seat”. That is some statement form a senior member of the Chelsea board.
“When you are the best in the business you have many people who would like you to fail”.
Mourinho’s last game in charge was a 2-1 defeat at Leicester City managed by Claudio Rainer, the man he replaced at Stamford Bridge when he first arrived from Porto in 2004.
“It was a question of when”.
“I can only say about Mourinho that I’m definitely surprised”, he told a press conference this morning.
“It has been a unusual time and I really felt there was no alternative after Monday night in the way they lost the game”. While there is huge sentiment for the individual, who has done so much for the club, the fact remains Chelsea football club is in trouble.
“There was no alternative”. He is one of the great managers.
“I want to gather as much information as possible”.
“He’s not someone who is there to give confidence to his players”. That can’t be healthy for him.
“There obviously seemed to be a palpable discord between manager and players and we feel it was time to act”.
