The first Test between India and New Zealand starts in Kanpur on Thursday.

Although the 24-year-old Mat Henry is talented, the New Zeland team will miss the services of Tim Southee who is most experienced bowlers with 52 test matches.

“Tim has been working hard in preparation for this tour, so he’s understandably very disappointed to be ruled out of all three Tests”, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said on Friday (September 16).

Canterbury’s Matt Henry will replace Southee in the squad.

Hesson further added that ” Southee is suggested for ten days bed rest and after that, he will start bowling slow in the nets to prepare himself for the One-Day series against India”.

His recent form has dropped away, having taken just 14 wickets in his six Tests in 2016.

In reply, Mumbai reached 29/1 after batting for 13 overs when stumps were drawn for the day.

Among others to get time in the middle were spinning allrounders Mitchell Santner (45) and Mark Craig (33 not out), while Ross Taylor scored 41, Henry Nicholls 29 and BJ Watling retired on 21.

Seamer Trent Boult claimed New Zealand’s only wicket, removing Jay Bista with the third ball of Mumbai’s response.
