Food and Drug Administration(FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of foodborne hepatitis A.

On Sept. 7, the Virginia Department of Health posted that 80 state residents have tested positive for hepatitis A, a viral infection which affects the liver, after consuming a smoothie at Tropical Smoothie Café.
According to the Virginia Department of Health there are now 66 confirmed cases of hepatitis A that are connected to frozen strawberries from Egypt used at Tropical Smoothie Cafes across Virginia.
To date, the CDC reports 70 victims in seven states-Virginia (55), Maryland (6), West Virginia (5), NY (1), North Carolina (1), OR (1), and Wisconsin (1).
The Centers for Disease Control and Population said 89 people are sick in seven states after drinking smoothies containing strawberries from Tropical Smoothie Café.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe voluntarily withdrew all of the strawberries sourced from Egypt and found an alternate supply. There is still a chance, however, that additional cases will be discovered. Symptoms can develop 50 days after exposure, officials said.
