Her turn now: Hillary Clinton makes her case for presidency

The Democratic nominee cited several goals for the first 100 days of a Clinton administration.

“This year, in this election, I’m asking you to join me – to reject cynicism, reject fear, to summon what’s best in us, to elect Hillary Clinton as the next president of the United States”, Obama said as he concluded his remarks.

“He’s taken the Republican Party a long way, from “Morning in America” to ‘Midnight in America.’ He wants us to fear the future and fear each other”, she said. Trump’s national security stumbles in questioning USA support for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies and urging Russian Federation to meddle in the race provides a general-election opening for Clinton and other Democrats to reach out to Republicans.

“I don’t think you can find any Republican who can defend some of the stuff that Donald Trump is saying”, said Jamie Harrison, chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party.

Chelsea Clinton, who spent eight years of her childhood in the White House when Bill Clinton was president, will introduce her mother on Thursday evening. “I thought her speech was solid”.

“Bernie, your campaign inspired millions of Americans, particularly the young people who threw their hearts and souls into our primary”, Clinton said.

“Your cause is our cause”.

“I want to thank Bernie Sanders”.

Eight years after losing her Democratic nomination race to Barack Obama, the former first lady, US senator from NY and secretary of State also sought to reintroduce herself to the American people, with the help of testimonials from other speakers and a biographical film.

“My earliest memory is my mom picking me up after I fell down, giving me a little hug, and reading me “Goodnight Moon”,” she said. Her grandma, she said, would be “so, so proud”.

And she pledged to defeat the Islamic States group with airstrikes and support for local ground forces, while authorizing a “surge” in intelligence to prevent terrorist attacks.

The crowd is cheering loudly for Chelsea.

Obama, who beat Clinton in the 2008 campaign for the Democratic nomination, will be speaking 12 years to the day that he gave a keynote address, as an IL state senator, to the Democratic convention in 2004, which launched him on the national stage. That contributed to a lack of consensus on whether Clinton succeeded in reaching the people she needed to. “Regardless of what happened in my life, she was always, always there for me”, she asserted. But her real audience will be millions of voters who may welcome her experience but question her character. “How does she keep going?”, Chelsea said.

“I love Hillary too”. So you’ve got to talk about the future.

“Trump once demanded that Obama release his college transcript because it would be very revealing”. Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, cast their 45-year marriage and courtship in a way no one ever had – as an old-fashioned, boy-meets-girl love story.

“Today, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more ideal union: The first time that a major party has nominated a woman for President”, Clinton said. Now, it’s time for Hillary Clinton to make her own case.

In a 12-minute introduction received warmly in a packed Philadelphia arena, Chelsea Clinton countered criticism that her mother is an untrustworthy politician who struggles to show compassion in front of American voters.

“When any barrier falls in America, it clears the way for everyone”.

“Thinking “America will be great” can mean very different things to different people, and when this message is presented in isolation, that will increase its appeal to different cross sections of voters”, Mr. Barbera said. “America isn’t about ‘Yes he will.’ It’s about ‘Yes we can'”.

She added: “Every generation of Americans has come together to make our country freer, fairer, and stronger”.

Making history as the first female major party nominee for president, Hillary Clinton said Thursday that America faces “a moment of reckoning” over the economy, terrorism, national unity, and the candidacy of Donald Trump.

“But we are not afraid. We will rise to the challenge, just as we always have”.

Clinton’s speech was the final address of the Democratic National Convention. “Really? I alone can fix it?”

After all, she said, our forefathers fought a revolution and wrote a constitution to reject a system giving one person all the power.
