After pre-apologizing for his jokes earlier this month, Ricky Gervais didn’t hold back during his opening monologue at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.
She said: “I am extremely surprised and overwhelmed”.
Though “Steve Jobs” failed to win over many critics or moviegoers, Danny Boyle’s drama about the Apple co-founder earned best screenplay for Aaron Sorkin and best supporting actress for Kate Winslet, her fourth Globe in 11 nominations.
“I want to say something nice about Mel before he comes out so …” Amazon’s comedy “Mozart In The Jungle” took the prize for best comedy series.
Sean Penn: After the revelation that Sean Penn’s secret interview with notorious Mexican drug lord “El Chapo” led to the kingpin’s arrest (!), you knew that Gervais wouldn’t be able to let the night slide by without a dig at the Oscar victor. “And I blame NBC for this awful situation”.
Best actress went to Brie Larson, the breakout star of the captive mother-son drama “Room”.
-Actress, Musical or Comedy: Jennifer Lawrence, “Joy”. “But my wife, thank you, Lucy, for everything”.
-Actress, Drama: Taraji P. Henson, “Empire”.
DiCaprio beat out fellow nominees Bryan Cranston of “Trumbo”, Michael Fassbender of “Steve Jobs”, Eddie Redmayne of “The Danish Girl”, and Will Smith of “Concussion”.
In the race for best actor in a drama, DiCaprio appears well ahead and critics are widely predicting that the 41-year-old will even take home his first Oscar for the role.
