Here For It! Cookie Lyon Is Getting A Prequel
Executive producer Brian Grazer later explained to the AP that a spin-off will only happen if the main show can “stay authentic”.

With Empire Entertainment founder and Lyon family patriarch Lucious (Terrence Howard) now incarcerated, his ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and their oldest son Andre (Trai Byers) are teaming up to oust him as CEO.
Lee Daniels, the co-creator of Fox’s hit drama, “Empire“, revealed that there will definitely be a spin-off show about Cookie.
But the new music-based series Daniels is developing for Fox-Star, about a band that forms in Atlanta-won’t be connected to the Empire universe. Several high-profile guests will make appearances in future episodes, including Marisa Tomei, Pitbull, Ludacris and Chris Rock.
Empire’s first season – set in New York City – was met with overwhelming reception by fans and critics, and has garnered leading lady Taraji P Henson an Emmy nomination for Best Actress. The vivid and intricately-dressed Cookie is an integral part of the reason Empire has been such a success, obviously, and Fox wouldnt be taking any chances with pulling her off of the music-oriented drama. Five-time Grammy victor Mariah Carey will also appear in Season 2 but not as herself.
“The producers feel very committed to finding the 15th American Idol and not let the search…be lost in the celebratory element of the show”, Walden said. If you follow me on social media, you’ll get my sense of humor.
In the meantime, we’ll have to console ourselves with this brand new action-packed trailer for series two.
The frantic storytelling pace of Season 1 would seem to be hard to sustain, and Daniels agrees, saying, “That was a question we talked about in the writers’ room…”
The show is written by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who haven’t told the cast who the killer is or if their characters will survive. “This was me. This is my life, I thought”.

After a record-breaking first season, “Empire” returns as the number one series on broadcast television. “I was a little nervous in the beginning because of the actors”.
