Though the update has only been live for a couple of days, some users on Twitter have been reporting their data usage has escalated to far beyond what they’d normally use.

This is especially unsafe because the feature is enabled by default when you upgrade your phone. Though the option will boost your phone speed, it will also most certainly tax your data plan.
So if this is likely to be a problem for you, simply turn “Wi-Fi Assist” off. The default setting in iOS 9 is for “Wi-Fi Assist” to be on.
