‘An essential part of preparing for the New Year is to reflect on the past and look for ways to make the future brighter, ‘ said Times Square Alliance president Tim Tompkins.
Among dozens who lined up outdoors was Maureen Dexter of Wenatchee, Washington, who shredded pictures of herself before she lost 75 pounds after winning a contest to attend the event.
A young woman had a special little something to put in the shredder at an end-of-year soul-cleansing ritual in Times Square on Monday – customized holiday wrapping paper featuring photos of her and her ex.
Queens resident Nancy Bommer, 45, shredded the bills she had paid on time, allowing her to “invest in better dental care and a better me” in 2016. “Twelve hours without being able to eat, stretch my legs or go to the bathroom”, Carlos, a Spaniard who has lived in NY for three years, told EFE.
Tourists who immortalized their visit to NY taking selfies at the Crossroads of the World over the weekend could watch the New Year’s Eve Ball, glittering with Waterford crystal, being placed atop One Times Square on Sunday for its ceremonial lowering next Thursday to bring in the year 2016.
“Everyone knows about New Year’s resolutions, like how I want the new year to be different and have something new in my life”.
“I’ve been meaning to do it all year”, she said.
Those making deposits in the “New Year’s Eve Wishing Well” varied widely in their desires.
