Billy Joel, J.K. Simmons and Jimmy Fallon all busted out an impromptu version of “For the Longest Time” on “The Tonight Show”.

The adorably rough start, Simmons totally nailing the bass parts, Billy Joel’s still-incredible riffing – it’s a performance that ranks among our all-time favorite Fallon moments.

“The crew’s going, ‘You know you’re supposed to be on stage now, ‘ and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, ‘” Joel said.

Joel, 66, gushed about his two children – 30-year-old Alexa Ray from his second marriage to model Christie Brinkley and five-month-old Della Rose with his current wife, Alexis Roderick, 33.

“Every time she comes to the house we sit around, play the piano and sing”, he says.

Between a commercial break while filming the episode, Joel and Fallon spontaneously broke into an a capella performance of “The Longest Time”.
