Here’s what Trump wants in an immigration bill
The White House framework proposes a path to citizenship for 1.8 million immigrants either enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program or otherwise qualify for it. Trump said previous year the DACA program would expire unless there is a legislative replacement made before March. The question is, do Democrats, will [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer and [House Minority Leader ] Nancy Pelosi show the same leadership and protect their constituency from their radical left-wing base?

At the end of President Trump’s first year in office, Senate Democrats demanded a solution for Dreamers in exchange for their votes on a continuing resolution to fund the government.
The president’s plan has gotten praise from some Republicans, but it’s also been met with criticism from both immigration hard-liners who say there are too many protections for illegal immigrants, as well as from Democrats who say some of the new restrictions go too far.
That included $25 billion in proposed funding for Trump’s long-promised wall along the border with Mexico, as well as changes to legal immigration programs.
According to Trump’s proposal, the undocumented immigrants could become USA citizens over a 10 to 12 year period if they met certain requirements.
At least 23 Dreamers will be in the public galleries in the House of Representatives chamber as guests of Democratic lawmakers, according to a list provided today by a congressional aide.
Rep. McCaul introduced a bill that allows DACA recipients to receive renewable legal status, but ensures those with serious criminal convictions are not eligible for legal status.
After President Donald Trump said during a White House briefing there was a possibility to allow the legalization of thousands of “Dreamers”, the White House advanced on the proposals that Trump will present to the Senate.
But the White House announced a “Framework on Immigration Reform & Border Security” on Thursday and told reporters in a preview on Wednesday: ‘We’re going to morph into it. “But his plan would put the administration’s entire hardline immigration agenda – including massive cuts to legal immigration – on the backs of these young people”, Durbin said. It is not simply concerned with illegal immigration but also seeks to restrict legal immigration – and now it wants to use the predicament of the Dreamers in order to achieve that goal.

Specifically on Dreamers, Trump said: ‘Tell ’em not to be concerned, OK? They want to limit family considerations when visas are awarded to just parents and children who are minors, and they also want to completely end the visa lottery system. And if we need a little more time, we’ll take a little more time.
Officials said the president’s decision to formally present a plan to Congress was a direct response to members of Congress, including Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, who had complained that they did not know where the president stood in the immigration debate.
“We’re getting started without them”, Flake said. But Congress has since struggled to find a bipartisan compromise.
US President Donald Trump, who has come into power with the alleged anti-immigrant slogan, has surprisingly proposed a legislation that could provide citizenship for almost 1.8 million undocumented immigrants.

The fight over protections for Dreamers, which are set to expire in March, was part of the standoff between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate that resulted in a three-day government shutdown that ended on Monday.
