Burguan says officials recovered assault rifles and handguns, after an armed conflict with the two suspects. Burguan says two suspects, one male and one female, are dead.

Farook had attended a festive party for his workplace being held at the Inland Regional Centre, a social services facility that works with disabled people, on Wednesday morning.

The couple had more than 1,600 bullets with them when they were gunned down in their S-U-V, and a further 3,000 rounds in their home. The couple left their six-month old girl with Farook’s grandmother before the shooting, telling her they were leaving for a doctor’s appointment. A third person who fled the scene was detained, but police later determined he was not involved in the incident.

“I think that based upon what we have seen and based upon how they were equipped, there had to have been some degree of planning that went into this”, said Burguan.

Farhan Khan, Farook’s brother-in-law, expressed disbelief over his relative’s alleged actions late Wednesday. Law enforcement authorities said they also found three devices in the building, which police believe were explosives.

Co-workers also told the newspaper Farook was a devout Muslim who rarely spoke about his faith at the office. Employees of the San Bernardino Health Department were having a Christmas party at the site.
