Here’s Where People are Playing Pokemon Go

Players began tweeting about it as soon as it was available Friday morning, and the Pokemon Co. and the developer of the augmented reality game, U.S.-based Niantic Inc., confirmed its launch. There was also a case in which a boy playing the game on a street was shot dead by an unknown person in Guatemala.

Not too long after its release, it was clear that Pokemon Go was a special breed of app the likes of which we had never previously seen. The release comes two weeks after the game made its chart-topping debut overseas, triggering a worldwide phenomenon that added as much as $20 billion to the market value of Nintendo shares rose as much as 6.9 per cent in Tokyo. But that didn’t dampen her enthusiasm.

So even though we don’t really need any more information to confirm the fact that Pokemon Go is wildly successful, a new data point from Apple is certainly worth sharing.

There is no doubt that Niantic is going to roll out all of these updates and changes (including trading, world events, and new Pokemon), but I’ll be shocked if it happens in any reasonable amount of time. The fast food chain is believed to act as one of the gyms where players will battle and/or acquire creatures. Nintendo shares quickly went up.

It’s quite ironic that the popular augmented reality game didn’t become available in Japan where the Pokémon is originally from.

People have been crashing cars, falling into lakes and getting into all sorts of trouble as they walk around playing the game and not concentrating on their surroundings.
