Hermine: Tropical Storm Warning Lifted for Suffolk County
This storm is not like some of the other big ones such as Sandy, where we saw actual gasoline shortages develop, but it could amount to something significant, if it lingers. The hurricane center lowered its chances from 20 percent to zero on Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures today peak in the mid-70s.

Tomorrow, we anticipate more of the same. a breeze, with a few showers. “A turn toward the northeast is forecast to occur on Wednesday”, it adds.
WOW was it WINDY last night.
“The wind is pretty strong”. New London Ledge had a gust to 54 miles per hour last night and Groton had a gust to 43 miles per hour!
Beidermann estimated the winds measured “something like 90 knots” (103 mph) and ocean swells “got up to 40 or 50 feet at one point”.
Saturday and Sunday: Mostly sunny and temps in the low to mid 80s.
In terms of rain, there hasn’t been a lot with Hermine over the past couple of days, and most of what remains will fall on eastern Long Island and southeastern New England.
MIAMI – The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Newton has strengthened into a hurricane. “Tampa, generally considered as one of the most flood-prone locations in the US, has received over 20 inches of rain from the precipitation bands associated with Hermine”, the company notes.
WIND: As mentioned above, the wind is whipping out there.
Meanwhile, the Jersey Shore and Long Island face wind gusts of at least 40 miles per hour and perhaps stronger from Sunday night through Tuesday morning. North wind 13 to 16 miles per hour. Many started nearly immediately cleaning up, picking up tree limbs and other debris and trying to restore normalcy. While the waves off shore continue to be rough, the risk of any coastal flooding is now over with. But the storm that’s roiling the ocean has left most of the region thirsting for rain high and dry.
“It just goes to show you what a little bit of difference in the track of the storm can do”, said Accuweather meteorologist Tom Kines. In fact, some CT towns may not receive any rain, especially in the western side of the state. The remainder of the eastern half of the Untied States is under the influence of a ridge of high pressure.
In St. Pete, Hurricane Hermine flooded roads and forced Critters Cafe to close early four nights, lowing about two thirds of their business.
Gregorio says clouds will be heavier at the shore with highs in the low 80s.

With Hermine, the higher vulnerability “is because there are significant differences in North Florida building stock, which is generally wooden-framed, compared with domestic properties in central and south Florida where the use of masonry is more common”, RMS explains.
