Hernandez: I Left Over Van Gaal
Hernandez was voted the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year after his first United season by supporters and his knack for vital goals endeared him to Reds during his five years at the club.

In the Daily Mail, there’s a story that Louis van Gaal has relented and given Manchester United’s players two days off. While they might need the rest after a busy run of games, it can’t be overstated how much happier they probably are when they don’t have to see their manager and go through his reportedly terrible training approach.
Hernandez joined German side Bayer Leverkusen on a permanent £7million after a loan to Real Madrid the season before, a surprisingly low transfer fee that has left some Manchester United fans questioning the club’s transfer policy.
By contrast, United can barely buy a goal with Anthony Martial scoreless since September and Wayne Rooney out injured. The assumption can only be that van Gaal thought another striker was on his way into the club, but this has never been confirmed despite rumors linking United to a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
“Van Gaal said that I only had a one per cent chance of playing in my position, so I headed to Bayer”, the striker told Spanish newspaper Marca. “I have been confident since the first day and I feel more important here, because I feel that I’ll start every game”.
While Hernandez’s comments are unlikely to ruffle van Gaal, the timing of them could prove hard as the manager faces increasing questions about how United are progressing under his stewardship.
United’s board had planned to back van Gaal in the January transfer window but, following back to back defeats against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth, there is a sense that the Dutchman would target the wrong type of player ahead of what could potentially be a summer of change at Old Trafford, with Pep Guardiola said to be available.

“I didn’t have the intention to leave but I wanted more playing time”, Hernandez said. “He opened the doors to Europe for me and I also won two league titles under him”.
