There were dramatic moments for a mother and child in Amsterdam as their auto got into a canal and began sinking.

Her vehicle has been recovered from the canal, but might not be roadworthy anytime soon.
One local media organization tweeted an image of the men along with the text, “Here they are: the four men who rescued the mother and child out of the water”.
The rescuers used rocks to smash the windows of the vehicle.
The four rescuers were hailed as local heroes for their efforts.
None of the four rescuers knew each other at the time but they are apparently planning to go out together this weekend and down a few Heinekens to celebrate their successful mission.
An office worker who saw what was happening then grabbed a hammer and jumped in to help, the Huffington Post reported quoting a Dutch video report. It is quite a natural reaction, ‘ he said.
“I think every healthy young man would have jumped into the water”, he said.

The mother and toddler were taken to hospital and are now doing well after the incident.
