Heroic Mother Shields Children From Uber Gunman’s Fire

The first victim of the Kalamazoo, Michigan shooting was a 25-year-old mother who risked her own life to save a group of children that was playing outside.

Kalamazoo Public Safety says it’s not any closer to uncovering a reason for the trio of shootings in the Kalamazoo area that left six dead and two others gravely wounded.

“He shot her once and she was still running and then he shot her again and she fell”.

The 9 mm handgun was found by police in Dalton’s Chevrolet HHR after they took him into custody at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday in downtown Kalamazoo.

Carruthers then walked over to see if the man needed any help and that is when authorities say he opened fire.

A lawyer has been appointed to represent a man accused of killing six people in western MI.

Carruthers has undergone surgery, and is expected to make a full recovery from her injuries.

On Tuesday, police revealed Dalton didn’t have a history of mental illness. “Joi, help me”, Coleman said.

“Fourteen-year-old Abigail Kopf was also shot at the country restaurant and was fighting for her life as of Monday night”, the Daily News reports.

Shortly after he killed Mary Lou Nye, 60, Mary Joe Nye, 62, Barbara Hawthorne, 68, and Dorothy Brown, 74, at a nearby Cracker Barrel. Carruthers was at a park near her apartment in the Richland Township complex with her daughter, niece, and three other children when Dalton, an Uber driver, reportedly motioned her to his vehicle. He was arraigned Monday on six counts of murder, two counts of assault with intent to commit murder and eight counts of felony firearm use.
