Heroic Officer Saves Truck Driver’s Life
“In speaking with the family, medical personnel and witnesses at the scene, it is apparent the quick actions of Trooper Devers helped save the driver’s life”, OSP’s Facebook post reads.

A trooper with the Piqua Post is being recognized for keeping a truck driver alive in the precious moments before EMS arrived.
After getting into the cab he finds the driver still belted into his seat, but barely conscious and struggling to breathe. Throughout the two minute clip, the driver can be heard taking gasping breaths, while the trooper encourages him to keep breathing.
“Don’t you die on me”, he later shouts.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of you”, Piqua District Commander Captain Dan Lay said at the ceremony. The man was then transported to a local hospital and is said to have made a full recovery.
Mr Devers received a Certificate of Recognition for his actions on Thursday last week.
Devers was forced to perform CPR chest compressions on the injured man, while giving instructions to other helpers at the scene. According to the patrol, the driver’s eyes soon “rolled back into his head” and the man stopped breathing.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the driver “began breathing on his own and stabilized” once emergency medical staff got to the scene.
