And in Erie, Pennsylvania, the candidate himself sounded upbeat a day after acknowledging his campaign was having trouble. The electorate he must reach to win goes beyond the GOP base yearning for a populist, off-beat and sometimes off-color candidate like Trump. As I noted earlier, the national trends are reversed in Kentucky where presidential election years tend to favor Republicans. We will find out.

Top Republicans say that if Trump loses in those states by up to 10 points or more, it could be impossible to win over enough split-ticket voters to keep control of the Senate. And then he added – quote – “but not that sarcastic”. Since the end of the primaries, Hillary Clinton has spent $42.9 million in ads. They paid about 34 percent in federal taxes. “Look at the choice we’ve got”.
Politico was the first outlet to report on the letter.
Robert Costa, welcome back to the program. Simply not voting is passive support for Trump.
ROBERT COSTA, The Washington Post: Judy, good to be with you.

This month, Trump is asking for more from the RNC, going so far as to propose a fully staffed field office in the island state of Hawaii.
In February, minutes after the death of conservative-leaning U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, McConnell issued a statement announcing that the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee would not be holding a vote for any replacement appointed by President Barack Obama.
ROBERT COSTA: Utah is a particularly case.
Trump, a NY businessman who has never held elected office, has been mired in repeated controversies in recent days.
Trump’s running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, is not featured in the campaign. But at this point, their fate, as frustrated as they are, their fate is tied to Donald Trump.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign is launching a new effort to tap into the political power of young, undocumented immigrants. But there’s nothing to stop Trump from repeating the exercise on a grand scale in the general election. He’s been so rough and tumble for so long, throwing punches, that it turns some swing voters off.
JUDY WOODRUFF: And what does that mean, Robert? His complaints have focused on fears of voter fraud – that people will vote a couple of times – rather than election rigging.
So, problem solved? Maybe, although there’s an overarching problem: what happens if the Republican National Committee decides to give up on Trump?
The last time CT voted for a Republican presidential candidate, Americans were listening to music on cassette tapes and most cell phones were the size of shoe boxes.
Those figures include donations to the candidates’ campaigns but not donations to the Republican Party or to “Super PACs” that independently support candidates.

Is this the kind of thing that the party leadership has to worry about or can they just ignore it all? Mahoning County Republican Party Chairman Mark Munroe didn’t know beforehand about Trump’s visit, saying the Trump campaign operates autonomous from local campaigns. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.
