While other reports claim that the building was hit with four missiles launched by two Israeli warplanes. Kuntar was with a group of commanders from various groups that were reportedly planning attacks on Israel.

In 2003 Israeli negotiated with Hezbollah the release of an Israeli businessman and the bodies of three soldiers on the condition that Kuntar be released.

There was no direct confirmation from Israel, which generally refrains from commenting on airstrikes inside Syria.
