Hiddink delighted as Chelsea finally turn on the style

Terry was forced off after just 38 minutes of the encounter, although his side were able to go on and claim a 5-1 win ahead of their Champions League clash with PSG on Tuesday.

Chelsea’s Spanish midfielder Pedro celebrates scoring his second and their fourth goal during the English Premier League football match between Chelsea and Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in London on February 13, 2016.

Hiddink also hinted at a possible major shake-up in the ageing Chelsea team, suggesting younger players like Bertrand Traore, Kenedy and Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be given bigger responsibilities.

Andros Townsend did score his first goal since joining Newcastle in the 90th minute but it was a mere consolation.

“Success is when we go on and get to the finals of both cups”.

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink says John Terry will undergo scans on Sunday for what he hopes is a “small muscular problem” and insists the Premier League must do more to help clubs competing in the Champions League get the recovery time they need.

Willian and Costa, who played in a protective face mask after breaking his nose in training on Thursday, reveled in the miserable Magpies defending to lead the destruction of Chelsea’s visitors. He was disgusting defensively but great offensively, with him having one of the best chances to equalize the game for Chelsea, which was brilliantly saved by Manchester United’s goalkeeper, David De Gea. Azpilicueta wasn’t great either, with the Left Back not doing well defensively in the buildup to Jesse Lingard’s goal for Manchester United.

For a team with as much talent as Chelsea it was only a matter of time before someone paid the price.

Hiddink praised how the American performed and his dedication towards improvement but said he still wasn’t ready for the fast way of playing of Premier League. He believes the quality “automatically comes up” and thinks that is what Chelsea have to do “even more”.

“We are unbeaten since December but we weren’t really proud because there were too many draws, we wanted the status of being unbeaten with victories, that’s why this is good”, Dutchman Hiddink, whose side are 12th in the table, told reporters.

Hiddink added: “We are a team with a lot of masks”. And neither Mikel nor Oscar played today, and they could be key to keeping a tight ship against PSG.
