Hiddink pleased with starting performances of Chelsea starlets Kennedy, Bertrand Traore

Chelsea are in eighth place and eight points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who have played two games less than the Premier League holders.

Guus Hiddink selected Brazilian attacking midfielder Kenedy at left-back for Chelsea’s visit to Norwich City tonight, and had barely taken his seat in time to see his handy work pay dividends.

“But they’re proving against Norwich and at Southampton (last weekend) – Traore has scored a few good goals for us… there are young boys here with bright futures”.

“Now we play well, we start to win the games and every player has a lot of confidence. If everyone is available, we’d like to go as high as possible towards the European spots”, he added.

The Blues doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when a suspiciously offside Costa latched onto Burkina Faso forward Bertrand Traore’s threaded through ball and chipped the ball over an advancing Ruddy for his 10th goal in 14 matches.

Cameron Jerome hit the bar as Alex Neil’s side looked for a route back into the match after the break, and they did give themselves hope with a Nathan Redmond goal midway through the second half.

“We had a splendid start through Kenedy, a handsome goal, but after that we had some options to get a second”.

“We did in the end, but we should have killed it off already by then”.

“I have the experience in the past with these kinds of injuries that the demands of the game are a little bit different from training”. There was a hint of offside in the move, but the officials decided against making the call. “When we get chances we need to take more of them”.

“You’ve seen the three lads I’ve just mentioned there are heavily involved in the first team squad now”, Cahill said.

The Canaries slipped into the relegation zone with a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Tuesday night, and there was a mixed reaction from fans on Twitter.

“It’s very important to win games”, Matic told Chelsea TV.

Despite Traore seemingly leapfrogging Pato in the pecking order, Hiddink could be ready to put the Brazil worldwide on the bench for the game at Norwich, while fellow loanee Radamel Falcao remains out with a groin problem.

Neil reverted to three centre-backs for the game at Leicester as Norwich nearly kept a clean sheet against a side containing free-scoring stars Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.
