Hideki Matsuyama beats Rickie Fowler in Phoenix Open playoff
Both Matsuyama and Fowler carded four-under 67 on Sunday to finish regulation tied on 14-under 270. The event has drawn 535,035 for the first six days – close to the weekly mark of 564,368 set a year ago.

Fowler was limited to a 70 by three bogeys and Matsuyama collected three birdies on the back nine in a 68.
Hideki Matsuyama defeated Rickie Fowler in a four-hole playoff to win the tournament.
CHAMPIONS: Corey Pavin birdied his last hole Saturday to shoot a 4-under 68 and take a one-shot lead over Tom Lehman into the final round of the Allianz Championship.
“I struggled all week with my game, but it really came around today and I was really pleased that it did”, said Matsuyama, who hadn’t won on the PGA Tour since the 2014 Memorial and now has eight worldwide wins.
Harris English shot a 66 and finished third at 12-under 272. On his back nine, he got up-and-down for birdie from a greenside bunker on the par-5 third and closed with a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-4 ninth.
So it wasn’t altogether surprising that he won, only that Fowler lost, more so that he did so in front of a vociferous partisan crowd that got the show it wanted, but not the ending.
Lee ended up shooting a 73 and finished fourth at 11-under 273.
European – Danny Willett withstood the pressure and made a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win the Dubai Desert Classic title by one shot.
“Those four have set the bar so high, and that’s what motivates me to practice harder and practice more, to be able to keep up with them”, he said.
Phil Mickelson was 8 under after a 65.
Toledo made a 4-foot par putt after Andrade’s 5-foot par try lipped out on the par-4 17th hole. He made bogey whereas playing partner Matsuyama collected a birdie having hit his approach to within 3ft.
Then, noting the support he had for what would have been his fourth PGA Tour win, his voice choked with emotion. The Englishman is 16 under for the tournament, with 2012 champion Rafael Cabrera-Bello (67) in second place at 15 under.

They were tied for the lead after finishing the third round in the morning. In regulation play he had been two shots behind with two holes left. It looked as if he was going to lose on the first playoff hole when his second shot landed in the palmetto bushes, but he saved par.
