Hideo Kojima Is Working With Sony On A PS4 Exclusive

According to a new report from The New Yorker (via GameSpot), Kojima will not be able to speak on the terms of his split with Konami. Some of Kojima’s employees from Konami will reportedly join him in forming Kojima’s new studio, aptly named Kojima Productions. The above video was a very respectful way to honour the guy and truly welcome him back aboard the PlayStation ship, which is where Metal Gear Solid found its biggest audience way back in 1998. Citing a Q&A that has been taken down, the publication also clarifies that Kojima’s new studio is not a subsidiary of Sony and its subsequent games may not necessarily be a PlayStation exclusive anymore. He also hints that this will not be a one-off game, but the beginning of a brand new series.

We don’t have any official info on Kojima’s upcoming game, but we do know it obviously won’t be Silent Hills or Metal Gear Solid, as Konami owns the rights.

Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc said: “PlayStation’s history is one of game innovation and great new franchises”.

The game is a console exclusive and it has been confirmed to be releasing on the PC as well, but after the PS4 version comes out first.

A mission statement from the new Kojima Productions, which starts with “We are Homo Ludens (Those who play)”, can be found here.

What kind of game would you like to see come out of his new company?

That’s certainly some high praise for Sony, but there’s no surprise that Kojima ultimately chose to settle on a partnership with the company, as he’s had close ties with them ever since he put a foot on the first rung of the industry’s ladder.
