Hield’s 36 points lead Oklahoma past VCU 85-81

This year will stand out to many as the year of the senior, and people who love sports should enjoy it while they can. He’s just a phenomenal player. With Denzel Valentine and Tyler Ulis out of the dance, Hield will be the story, and the best player, going forward.

Hield was stymied in a loss to West Virginia in the Big 12 Conference tournament last week, scoring just six points.

“Mr. Backboard himself”, Lattin said of Woodard.

In the end, Oklahoma pulled out an 85-81 win and Hield had a game we’ll all be talking about for a while. “We just didn’t have enough”. “He got going downhill and made a couple nice layups off the glass when we needed them”. JeQuan Lewis scored 22 for the Rams. “They find me in good spots”.

It was a two-man show for VCU on offense.

The Rams hung around but couldn’t regain the lead.

Jordan Woodard scored 17 points and Isaiah Cousins added 15 for the Sooners (27-7), who advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year. Alie-Cox made a jump shot in the lane to cap the run that cut Oklahoma’s 13-point halftime lead to four with 16:40 left.

“Buddy! Buddy! Buddy!” the crowd chanted as Hield played his final collegiate game in the state of Oklahoma.

“It is a demoralizing to an extent because coming into the game, of course, a lot of the attention is towards Buddy”, Johnson said. Lewis scored 13 points in the first half to keep the Rams within range.

Hield might have been spurred on when VCU guard Daniel Brooks talked a little trash.

Hield scored seven points in the first half.

The second half started with back-to-back three’s for Johnson, and the Rams used two separate runs of 7-0 and 8-0 to claw back into the game.

Despite a 26-7 Straight Up (SU) record, the Sooners have not fared well Against The Spread (ATS) with a 12-19 record.

The sad truth is that when National Basketball Association scouts look for players, they take the players age into account.

After the Sooners grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the first half, VCU adjusted against OU big men Ryan Spangler and Khadeem Lattin.

The box score tells you Hield scored 36 points, and if that is all you saw you might view this as another game in which he dominated and starred and dazzled and carried the Oklahoma Sooners to victory. The OU vs VCU game details, start time and more is ahead. VCU and Oklahoma split four previous meetings, with the Rams winning the most recent matchup on November 21, 2009.
