Robby Heil has been the water boy for his high school’s football team for years but on Friday it was his time to shine on the field. He has Down Syndrome and has been a big part of the team for four years.
This weekend, he finally got to take the field himself, and even took the pigskin to the house in front of his mom. Grab a kleenex, while you’re at it, just go ahead and grab the whole box.
The Tigers blew out South Carolina State on Saturday. “And the opportunity to put that helmet on tonight, it brought tears to my eyes tonight and tears all over the place”, head coach Jeff Burnside said.
“It’s incredible”, Debbie Heil said.
Novi was playing South Lyon East.
Both coaches agreed before the game to give Robby his moment.
“It makes me feel happy”, Robby told the station.
“This is way more important than football”, Pesci said. “I am hoping that everybody can learn from him”. “I practiced that play, practiced it a lot”.
