A spokesperson said the deepening depths of king tides has moved all departments in the city to develop ways to further mitigate the problem.
A National Weather Service coastal flood advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday.
Residents braced for even higher tides and surf Wednesday along the shoreline here in Southern California.
Fueled by a large supermoon and a sizable swell, the California coast is now experiencing a few larger than normal tides. A long-period northwest swell that has potential for high surf on west to northwest facing beaches will occur Wednesday through Friday, according to the NWS. Astronomical tides are based on the gravitational pull of the moon on the Earth.
Areas of most concern: Point Conception, Port Hueneme, Oxnard Shores, Malibu and Alamitos Bay.
In Orange County Seal Beach is the only beach on the list as an area of most concern.
Low-lying beach communities like Ocean Beach could see a few minor flooding in the coming days.
The expected conditions could generate flooding of such low-lying areas as beach parking lots, adjacent streets and, possibly, structures.
Lifeguards were asking people to stay out of the water due to high swell and risky rip currents.
“We’re keeping an eye out”, he added.

The surf should start to subside by Thursday afternoon.
