As firefighters tamed the Solimar Fire north of Ventura Sunday, charred hillsides above the seaside transportation corridor spelled out a future threat: landslides.

A brush fire in Ventura County, California, has burned roughly 1,200 acres and forced some mandatory evacuations.
When the blaze erupted Christmas night, operators at CRC’s oil field saw the fire, immediately notified authorities and secured wells and facilities in the area, Fonzo wrote.

Pacific Coast Highway is closed between the State Beaches and Seacliff off-ramps, and is expected to re-open by 5 p.m.
The fire, which was 10 percent contained, likely wouldn’t be under control until at least Tuesday, Burris said.
More than 400 firefighters continue to work the scene, he said.
The fire is threatening about 35 homes, and has also shut down a section of the Pacific Coast Highway, and halted train service through the area. VCFD Fire Battalion Chief Norman Plott said some freeway medians were burned and melted from the flames that hopped across the lanes.
People in the Solimar Beach area were ordered to leave their homes but that mandatory order was lifted late Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
However, the winds had died down by early afternoon.
As of 1 p.m., the highway was still closed, but officials said that it may reopen soon. It appears that it will take around three days for officials to completely stop the fire. “We had motorists making U-turns going opposing directions on the freeway with other motorists, not realizing the situation”.
A private power line downed by offshore winds was blamed for the fast-moving brushfire, firefighters said.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries fighting the fire, one with a knee injury and another an ankle injury, VanSciver said, he added.
