Higuain does not want to extend Napoli contract

Chelsea and Liverpool are thought to be heading the Premier League’s interest, while Arsenal and Manchester United have also been previously linked.

Higuain is desperate to leave Napoli this summer and has informed his brother/ agent Nicolas to do all that is possible to get him out of the Stadio San Paolo.

“The president of the club always insists on the buyout clause in case of a possible transfer of Gonzalo and we have our right not to renew the contract”, he added.

Other clubs like Liverpool or Arsenal have been floated as options at times as well, leaving Higuain plenty of heavyweight suitors available – all of whom could easily afford to pay the €94 million release clause in his contract that Napoli are still demanding that any interested team pay.

With the Argentina global also saying that he is willing to see out the remainder of his contract and then leave on a free transfer, Napoli might have little choice but to cash in on the 28-year-old this summer.

“We’ll see what happens next year with Napoli, given that his contract expires in 2018 when he turns 30”.

“We arrived with a Champions League project, of being champions, of growing, and the response of the company was not the most correct”, Nicolas Higuain said.

He however made it clear that if the release clause remains, his brother will not remain with the Italian club when his current deal runs out.

“It wasn’t right of the club to ignore those commitments”.

“‘Gonzalo [Higuain] won’t renew his contract with Napoli”.

“But it absolutely won’t be renewed if things stay this way”.

Why? He wants to play Champions League football. It all depends on De Laurentiis, he’d have to accept it.

Liverpool recently accepted a £5.5m offer from Fenerbahce for the Slovakian defender and, according to the club’s president, that deal is now nearly done. We’re convinced not to renew the contract, then we’ll see if the president accepts an offer lower than the clause.
