Hill ideal for seven, Dodgers blank Marlins 5-0

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Rich Hill had a ideal game intact through 6.2 innings Saturday night.

Hill spent time on the disabled list this year with groin and blister injuries. In this one, the Marlins had their own ideal game going until two outs in the fifth inning.

Roberts also removed Ross Stripling from a potential no-hitter on April 8 at San Francisco. Moore threw 133 pitches. “It was a pretty stress-free game for him”.

“You’ve got to give Urena credit, the kid threw the ball well”, Roberts said. “You’ve got a guy flirting with history”.

Maeda was dominant against Arizona in his last outing, striking out eight while yielding a run on three hits over 6 1/3 innings. But there is a bigger picture here, and I think we all know what it is. “I just think that, like I said, there are some things that I totally understand where the front office is coming from and their concern”, Hill said.

Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon showed off his glove in the sixth inning, snagging a hard grounder hit by Chase Utley, falling to the ground and spinning before throwing out Utley at first. Last night, Roberts cited the ailment as the reason for his decision. The Dodgers came into the game tied for the fewest errors allowed in the majors this season but kicked Yelich’s single to right field around for two errors (one by Reddick and another on a throw by shortstop Corey Seager), allowing a run to score. “It’s about amassing wins, not amassing no-hitters”. Hill is making just his third start since the All-Star break due to previous blister problems and hadn’t topped 89 pitches in a start.

Only five of the 15 teams in the American League are under.500, so there’s quite a race on for the postseason spots.

But he was one out away from his first complete game and shutout when Josh Reddick’s single prompted Mattingly to go to the bullpen for the final out.

Adonis Garcia’s tiebreaking single in the 10th inning scored Dansby Swanson from third base and Atlanta snapped visiting New York’s six-game winning streak. Seattle and Houston are 1 1/2 games further behind, and it’s another half-game back to Kansas City.

In San Diego, Mark Reynolds homered leading off the 10th inning and the Rockies salvaged a four-game split.

The Chicago Cubs have a chance to wrap up the NL Central in St. Louis at the home of the rival Cardinals.

Dodgers: RHP Jose De Leon (1-0, 4.50 ERA) will start Monday’s game against Yankees RHP Bryan Mitchell (1-0, 1.00 ERA), beginning a three-game series in NY.

Nearly having a ideal game pitched against them was stinging enough for the Miami Marlins. He threw six innings in his first, was scratched from the second, and then threw six scoreless in his next start before the ideal game effort. A step in the right direction, to say the least.
