Hill’s early TD helps Bengals to 30-14 win over Lions

Safety Derron Smith scored on a 60-yard interception return during the second quarter and the Cincinnati Bengals rolled to a 30-14 preseason win over the Detroit Lions on Thursday at Ford Field.The Bengals led 20-6 at halftime.Both teams scored on their first possession. In the receiving end, Rashaun Simonise had 47 yards and one reception while Tyler Boyd added 40 yards in one catch.

Detroit defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 30-17, in Week 1 in which Dan Orlovsky threw for 164 yards and a touchdown in 16-for-25 passes while Jake Rudock added 72 yards and a touchdown.

Boyd’s diving catch highlighted a hot start for Dalton, who was 5 of 5 for 63 yards on the opening drive before calling it a night after three series, finishing 7 of 9 for 78 yards.

Bengals: Mike Nugent missed a field goal on the opening drive last week against Minnesota, and he missed an extra point and a field goal against Detroit. Running back Rex Burkhead gained 42 yards on four carries and caught three passes for 31 yards.Detroit starting quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 8-of-11 passes for 113 yards while playing just over a quarter. Nugent did bounce back to nail a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter, upping the lead to 23-6.

Injuries: Jake Fisher, who started at right tackle for the injured Cedric Ogbuehi, suffered a right leg injury on the first play of the second offensive drive and left the field on a cart for precautionary x-rays.

Lions rookie Dwayne Washington had a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in Week 1 of preseason vs. the Steelers.
