Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are tied nationally

As secretary she had given speeches around the world in support of the deal under negotiation, saying in Australia in 2012 that it “sets the gold standard in trade agreements”, a cheerleading sentiment she echoed elsewhere.

“It’s time to end the very artful smear that you and your campaign have been carrying out”, she said.

Sanders didn’t back down.

Clinton leads Sanders 48 per cent to 45 per cent among Democratic voters, according to the poll of 512 people, conducted February 2-5. Thursday night’s intensifying jabs and pokes gave voters something to talk about.

The Sanders campaign said it is triple-checking results from each of the nearly 1,700 precincts and expects that the process will take at least several days. Clinton would do well to steer the conversation away from campaign finance as much as possible in future debates; she simply can’t avoid looking bad on it next to Sanders.

The poll released Friday finds Clinton leading the race with 44 percent support, compared to 42 percent support for Sanders, within the survey’s margin of error. Clinton declined to say yes or no. “I will look into it”, she said.

Clinton has often talked about how much she has raised from teachers, as opposed to big corporate interests.

“I represent, I hope, ordinary Americans, who are not all that enamored with the establishment”, he said.

The episode echoes the events in 2012, when Iowa’s Republican presidential caucuses became mired in confusion and created an embarrassment for the state following a similarly close race between former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania. While Clinton loses to the freshman Florida senator by 7 points, Sanders would tie Rubio. Eleven percent said they are undecided. “It’s just people like you who are going to decide whether or not to step up to elect the first woman president our country has ever had”.
