Hillary Clinton and the 2-for-1 presidency

ABC News’ Clinton campaign correspondent Liz Kreutz posted a video on Twitter of the candidate being asked if she would appoint her spouse to a cabinet position.

“Because, you know, he knows how to do it”, she said.

“Because, you know, he knows how to do it. Especially in places like coal country and inner-cities and other parts of our country that have really been left out, ” she added.

At another campaign event earlier May, Clinton said she would bring her husband “out of retirement” to creat jobs. Last week, Clinton sent the former president to Kentucky’s coal country to win over voters who were angry after she said in March she would champion renewable energy efforts and “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business”.

“It would be getting ahead of ourselves to talk about any sort of formalized role for anyone in her administration”, he said.

On Sunday, she got a little more specific about what he would be doing: fixing the economy.

The declaration of Bill’s money-guru role also comes as Hillary is racing down the stretch for what she hopes to be a momentum-shifting victory over Democratic rival Bernie Sanders in Kentucky.

An emphasis on Mr. Clinton’s economic policies to ward off criticism of the current turbulence will also mean a distancing from Mr. Obama’s policies for Ms. Clinton.

That stung for many in Appalachia in particular, and she has sought amends on the campaign trail.

Last week Bill Clinton spoke to Kentucky coal workers, using his ability to express empathy that has made him popular among many, The Washington Post reports.

But some of the key achievements of Bill Clinton’s administration form the basis of Trump and Sanders’ critique against his wife.

“Broadly-shared prosperity is what President Clinton is known for, so I am thrilled Hillary is deploying my old boss”, said former Clinton aide Paul Begala.
