The Democratic presidential candidate selected the Virginia senator as her running mate on Friday.

Like many asked during Friday’s rally at the Florida State Fairgrounds, Gadsden said he preferred a far more liberal senator, Elizabeth Warren of MA. Active in the Senate on foreign relations and military affairs, he has a reputation for working with both parties as Virginia’s governor and mayor of Richmond.

Clinton’s vetting process began over a year ago when she had a list of more than two dozen potential VP picks, but she and Kaine only recently got to know each other better. According to a Clinton campaign official, the former secretary of state called Kaine this evening to make the formal offer. “Here in Colorado it is 20-21 percent of the electorate which is huge”, Kaine said.

Along with his image as a low-key workhorse, Kaine brings legislative experience in the Senate and executive experience as a popular if unremarkable governor. The pair will appear together as a team for the first time at a campaign stop in Miami on Saturday.

Those finalists reportedly were Kaine, U.S. Labor Secretary Tom Perez and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, former governor of Iowa.

The New York billionaire painted a dystopian dark picture of an America mired in poverty and violence as he accepted his party’s nomination on Thursday night, promising to restore security, clamp down on immigration and put America first. He speaks fluent Spanish and often is used as a surrogate to the Spanish-speaking media in Washington.

At a joint campaign appearance last week in Virginia, which served as a final audition, Clinton stood side-by-side Kaine and beamed as he spoke of her virtues in Spanish, CNN noted.

Clinton is hoping to seize the spotlight from Republicans after their convention in Cleveland, CNN said.

The announcement comes ahead of Ms Clinton being formally elected as the Democratic presidential nominee at the party’s national convention in Philadelphia next week.

Critics of the free-trade deal, including Trump and Clinton’s Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders, say it would be unfair to US workers and kill jobs. “Secretary Clinton has rejected that approach, picking a sensible, swing-state centrist”.

Senator Kaine’s first key speech as running mate will be at the party convention.

In one of the most divisive elections in recent history, Kaine’s political style would also stand in stark contrast to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s often incendiary rhetoric and aggressive, personal attacks.

He is one of just 20 people to have served as a mayor, governor and US senator. Cory Booker, who also would’ve appealed to supporters who didn’t want Clinton to choose a white, pro-establishment man. In the end, though, USA Today reported that Clinton went with Kaine, who is considered the “safe” pick, because polls show that Sanders supporters are already starting to move toward Clinton due to their fear of Trump.
